National team defender Linda Sembrant is forced to undergo surgery after injuring her right knee during a training session with Juventus, the football club writes on its website.

It is about injuries to the cruciate ligament and the meniscus.

It is still unclear how long she will be gone, but this summer's Olympics could be in danger for the 33-year-old.

Sweden premieres against the USA on July 21 in Tokyo.

Sembrant has played a leading role for Italian champions Juventus this season.

She has made 126 international appearances for Sweden.
