According to the Handelsblatt newspaper, Schroeder expressed his position in a statement for an open hearing of the Bundestag economic committee, scheduled for Wednesday, July 1.

“More than 120 companies in the field of shipbuilding, engineering, environmental protection and safety, which work or have worked with Nord Stream 2, are directly affected ... For each of these companies there are European jobs that are at risk,” Schroeder said.

He noted that the draft law, which is currently being discussed in the US Congress, is "an unjustified attack on the European economy and unacceptable interference with EU sovereignty and energy security in Western Europe."

Earlier information appeared that additional sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline were included in the draft US national defense budget.

Also, the Minister of Energy of Russia Alexander Novak commented on the possible sanctions against Nord Stream 2.
