The Pyrénées-Atlantiques presented on Monday an incidence rate of Covid-19 of 81.09 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The figure is the highest in this part of France.

84% of the population of the department is however fully vaccinated.

The phenomenon is partly explained by clusters in schools, explained to

Sud Ouest

Maritxu Blanzaco, director of the departmental delegation of the regional health agency (ARS) of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

By way of comparison, the incidence rate was 55.02 in Charente-Maritime, 35.14 in Gironde and 43.93 in Landes.

Between October 17 and 24, the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 increased by 64.58%.

"The rate is climbing everywhere", however tempered Maritxu Blanzaco, referring in particular to the weekly jump of 212.50% recorded in the Landes.

The decisive All Saints holidays

The director explained that she expected "a lull" in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

She believes that the school holidays, which began in the department, would contribute to an improvement in the health situation.

For these reasons, at the end of the holidays, it will be necessary to redouble our attention in terms of respecting barrier gestures in schools.

"In the meantime, we must decorrelate this rise in the epidemic and the hospital tension", judged Maritxu Blanzaco.
