RIA Novosti reports.

“According to the results of the primary investigative actions, the police acted within the limits of their powers,” the department said.

Conclusions on the legality of the actions of the police officers will be made based on the results of the pre-trial investigation.

The hostage taking took place on 23 July. The attacker took a police officer hostage while trying to arrest him, threatening to detonate a grenade.

Subsequently, he agreed to replace the hostage with the head of the regional criminal investigation department. The hijacker drove away with the hostage in the provided car.

Later that day, the man who took the policeman hostage released him, after which he fled into the forest.

Earlier, the National Police of Ukraine reported that Roman Skrypnik, who took a hostage in Poltava on July 23, was found and shot.
