Sayaka Hirano, who won the silver medal at the women's team of the London Olympics, has been appointed as a new director of the Japan Table Tennis Association.
The Japan Table Tennis Association held a board of councilors on the 19th, approved 15 new directors, and Mr. Hirano was appointed as a director.
Mr. Hirano won the women's singles of the All Japan Table Tennis Championships five times, and participated in the Beijing and London Games for the second time in a row.
She won the silver medal, the first medal in the Japanese table tennis world, with Ai Fukuhara and Kasumi Ishikawa in the women's team at the London 2012 Games.
After she retired from active duty in 2016, she has been active as a commentator and sports caster.
Yoshihito Miyazaki, Managing Director of the Japan Table Tennis Association, said, "Mr. Hirano has a lot of activities in the media, so I hope she can give me advice from various perspectives."
In addition, Hanae Ito, a former representative of Japan for swimming and who has participated in two consecutive Olympic Games, has also been appointed as a new director.
The term of office of the director is two years.
