Saudi Arabia is ready to host the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup
The head of the Saudi Football Association, Yasser Al-Mishal, said that the federation is awaiting the response of the International Federation of the Game (FIFA) to the request to host the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup, stressing his country's readiness to host the tournament.
"We have been in contact with FIFA for a long time and have submitted an official request to host the tournament, and we know that FIFA will resort to an alternative option after Japan's apology and we are waiting to know the final position, and we are ready to host," Al-Mishal said in statements to MBC Action channel yesterday evening.
On the ninth of last September, FIFA announced the acceptance of Japan's apology for hosting the Club World Cup due to the country's health situation, in light of the emerging Corona virus pandemic.
Regarding the recent decision regarding the mass attendance at the matches, Al-Mishal said: “I thank the leadership and the Ministry of Sports after allowing the masses to enter the full capacity to support the Saudi national team in the final qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.”
And about the possibility of discussing increasing the number of foreigners in the Saudi Professional League to eight players during the meeting of the General Assembly of the Saudi Football Association, Al-Mishal said: “This option is not on our agenda now, and it will not be discussed.”
He added, "This is a matter for the Football Association and the Professional League, and we did not think about it. We have previously responded to the rumor of reducing the number of foreigners and confirmed that the number will not change."
He continued, "If there is any change, it will be studied extensively with the clubs and all concerned authorities, and then we will announce it at the appropriate time."
On the issues of Saudi clubs and his role in FIFA, Al-Mishal said: “The issues of Saudi clubs are not presented to me as a member of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, and all our clubs are fully aware of the cases brought against them to FIFA.”
