The International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) has launched an investigation after a Russian gymnast wore signs such as support for war on their uniforms and competed in international competitions.

AFP reported that "Russian gymnast Ivan Kuliak wore the 'Z' sign on his uniform at the World Cup Awards ceremony held in Doha, Qatar, on the 5th."

"The 'Z' sign is a sign affixed to a Russian tank or vehicle that invaded Ukraine and is recognized as supporting aggression."

The BBC also reported that "in Russia, pro-war politicians also use this 'Z' symbol."

Kuliak won a bronze medal in the parallel bar at this competition.

In the same event, Ukrainian national Ilya Kovtun won the gold medal and the two athletes stood side by side on the podium.

The FIG bans Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions starting this week.
