Ruling on a young man talking to a girl on social media while fasting

The "Emirates Today" website received a question about the ruling on a young man talking to a girl whom he knows through social media programs such as Instagram, Snapgate and Blackberry during the period of fasting.

Here is the answer of the Chief Mufti, Director of the Ifta Department, Dr. Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Haddad.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God

If it is going to provoke desire, then it is forbidden for him, because fasting is just as it is from food, drink and sexual intercourse, so is also from provocative speech, fallen, foolishness, quarrels, or anything else. And if someone sabotages you or is ignorant of you, then say: I am fasting, I am fasting. ”And Jaber said:“ If you fast, then let your hearing, sight and tongue fast from lying and sins, and let the servant hurt you, and be dignified and quiet on your fasting day, and do not make the day of your breaking and the day of your fast equal. The fasting person would have broken his fast, and he may have nothing but hunger and thirst from his fast, as the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “God is fasting, his share of his fasting is hunger and thirst. God has no need for him to leave his food and drink. ”Similar to falsehood is every saying that offends fasting, such as backbiting, gossip, insult, or provoking forbidden instincts, so you have to fear God Almighty and fast a real fast so that your fasting becomes an expiation for you and you are one of the liberation of this holy month.
