The British newspaper, The Times, reported that Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo asked the Manchester United management to allow him to leave the club if he received an offer that satisfies him during the current transfer period.

The newspaper added that the 37-year-old striker desperately wants to play in the Champions League for the rest of his career.

Ronaldo joined Manchester United last summer from Juventus, and is linked with the "Red Devils" with a contract that extends to the end of next season.

The Portuguese star scored 24 goals in 37 games in his first season with Manchester United, but that was not enough to contribute to leading the team to qualify for the Champions League.

United finished last season in the English Premier League in sixth place with 58 points, far from the top four qualifying for the Champions League.

Ronaldo seeks to be with a team that participates in the Champions League next season, in search of enhancing his records in this competition, which is its historical top scorer with 140 goals, and has previously crowned it on 5 previous occasions.
