  • The main access route to Vésubie, one of the valleys ravaged by the floods of October 2, was reopened this Friday evening.

  • Haute-Roya will remain inaccessible by car for several years.

It was Christian Estrosi who made the announcement.

This Friday evening, since 6 pm, "the RM2565, the main access road to Vésubie" reopened "to traffic as far as Saint-Martin-Vésubie", one of the villages ravaged by the floods of October 2.

"Users are called on to be extremely careful because the roads remain degraded" but "all the villages of the Vésubie and Tinée valleys are now accessible", specifies the Nice Côte d'Azur metropolis, in charge of infrastructure in these two mountainous areas of the Alpes-Maritimes.

A chance that will not have, in the short or medium term, the inhabitants of Haute-Roya, in the north-east of the department.

Since Monday, two daily round trips, morning and evening, have been provided by train between Breil-sur-Roya and Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende.

But for the road, we will still have to wait.

Its reconstruction will take years and cost at least 500 million euros according to the Alpes-Maritimes departmental council.

Ski resorts will be accessible

In the Tinée, where the Auron and Isola 2000 stations planned to open on December 5, the old ski route (ex RM2205 E) was put back into service on October 12 after cleaning work on the roadway.

Collapsed, the RM6102 will not be reopened until the end of 2020 / beginning of 2021, according to the metropolis.

La Colmiane will also be accessible.

According to estimates from the metropolis and the departmental council, work on road infrastructure and civil engineering structures, destroyed by the floods, could cost up to 1.5 billion euros.

The French Insurance Federation also assessed the insured damage (homes, cars, etc.) at 210 million euros.

In the Alpes-Maritimes, storm Alex officially caused the death of five people, whose bodies were found.

Thirteen others are still missing.
