As the War in Ukraine continues, the European Commission unveils its plan to get out of Russian hydrocarbons as quickly as possible.

To achieve this, Europe is counting on renewable energies, the securing of gas and oil suppliers outside Russia and on energy savings.

Find alternatives.

This is the watchword of the European Commission, which today unveiled a plan to get out of Russian hydrocarbons as quickly as possible.

To achieve this, the EU is counting on securing some of these supplies and on renewable energies.

Brussels thus wants a massive overhaul of the European energy system and wants to secure its alternative supplies of gas and oil.

Currently, 45% of the gas consumed on the continent comes from Russia.

To drastically reduce this figure, Europe has decided to gradually increase its imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States.

A strategy also adopted for conventional gas arriving by pipeline from Norway, Algeria or even Azerbaijan.

Energy savings

But the European Commission is also betting on the ecological transition to get rid of Russian gas, oil and coal, permanently.

To achieve this, it wants to massively develop renewable energies.

Brussels' idea is to increase the share of renewables in the European energy mix from 40 to 45% by 2030. In order to achieve this objective, the EU should simplify the procedures for building wind farms and double the share of solar roofing on the old continent.

The European Commission also wishes to emphasize energy savings.

Brussels is thus raising the objective of reducing our energy consumption, from 9 to 13% by 2030. A target that is difficult to achieve but which, according to the latter, will be achieved on the condition of making very great efforts in terms of renovation of European housing stock.
