The figures had leaked and are now confirmed. Renault announced, Friday, May 29, a drastic savings plan of more than two billion euros to restore its competitiveness through the confirmation of a plan to restructure six factories in France and significant cuts in its workforce in worldwide.

"In a context of uncertainties and complexity, this project is vital to guarantee a solid and sustainable performance," said interim executive director Clotilde Delbos, quoted in a press release.

The manufacturer, which last year accused its first net loss in ten years, has thus confirmed several working hypotheses to optimize its industrial apparatus in France: the creation of a center of excellence in the electric and utility from the two factories of Douai and Maubeuge in the North, a reflection on the conversion of the Dieppe factory (Seine-Maritime) at the end of the production of the Alpine A110, the creation of an economic center circular at Flins (Yvelines), where the activities of the Choisy-le-Roi plant (Val-de-Marne) would be transferred to Place de la Zoé, whose production in the Yvelines would stop after 2024, and the launch of a strategic review for the Foundry of Brittany, in Caudan (Morbihan).

These measures, as well as the rationalization of the production of gearboxes by the diamond group around the world, should contribute 650 million euros to the objective of cost reductions, the balance coming from engineering (800 million ) and support functions (700 million), for a total of around 2.15 billion.

The cost of these measures, which also provide for 15,000 job cuts, including 4,600 in France, without layoffs, is estimated at 1.2 billion euros, added Renault.
