It is sand as far as the eye can see on Amerikavägen in Borgholm municipality.

Last year, the ground was prepared for the planting of plants that are currently taking place by hundreds of plants of large and small bluebell, field weed, field weed, bitch's tooth, goat weevil and weed cliff.

- All those species naturally belong here and are plants that the unusual and sand bees depend on, says Elin Boberg who is a nature conservation officer at the County Administrative Board in Kalmar County.

The area prepared for the bees is 60,000 square meters in size and right now resembles a giant sandbox because the area was cleared of trees and low plants to pick out the only sand that the different varieties of sand bees need to build nests.

In a year or so, the plants that are planted out will now bloom and create the environment that the bees need.

In addition to plants, flower seeds are also sown in the area.

- Right now the bees have taken winter and are in their burrows, but by spring there will hopefully be a lot of buzz in the air, says Elin Boberg.

The project on Amerikavägen takes place in collaboration between the County Administrative Board of Kalmar County and Borgholm Municipality.

- We have really unusual species of bees here in the area, such as rapeseed sand bee and steppe malbi, we can get some of those species here, then we have really received a reward for the effort, says Frida Gustafsson who is an environmental strategist at Borgholm municipality.
