In 2021, 126 new personal signs were granted in Östergötland and 28 new on the island.

There are now 23,869 personal registration plates throughout the country.

- Personal names are the most common character combination when applying for personal signs.

Names or designations of different car models are also common, but the car brand owner often stops there when approval is required from them, says Daniel Augustini, acting section manager at the Swedish Transport Agency, in a press release.

Obtaining a personal sign costs SEK 6,200 and one is valid for ten years.

The possibility of obtaining this type of sign was introduced in 1988 and most of that money goes to measures to increase traffic safety, according to the Swedish Transport Agency.

The proportion of applications that are rejected has also increased sharply.
