Real Madrid, the "leech", falls to a draw with Villarreal

Real Madrid were awarded the fourth penalty in two matches, to draw 1-1 with host Villarreal in the Spanish Premier League today, Saturday, and lose points for the second match in a row.

Zinedine Zidane's team missed seven players due to injury and disease, including the trio Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema and Casemiro, but the defending champion advanced in the second minute with a Mariano Diaz header.

Villarreal protested the goal because the assistant referee raised his banner for a moment due to the offside of Lucas Vásquez, who did not touch the ball at all, before Dani Carvajal sent the cross pass to Mariano.

Villarreal's performance improved a lot in the second half, and after missing several chances, striker Gérard Moreno managed to beat Thibaut Courtois from the penalty spot in the 76th minute, following a foul by the Belgian goalkeeper against substitute Samuel Choquezi.

Villarreal continued to search for the winning goal and nearly scored it through the young Japanese, Takefusa Kubo, on loan from Real Madrid, but Courtois stood up to block his attempt.

Real Madrid, who lost 4-1 to Valencia in their previous league match, are fourth with 17 points, while Villarreal is second with 19 points.
