“In the Kirov region of Primorye, quarantine was introduced due to African swine fever (ASF). Checkpoints have been established on the border of the district, the private sector will be disinfected, ”the press release said.

An outbreak of the virus was detected in the villages of Stepanovka and Maryanovka.

ASF quarantine also operates in the Yakovlevsky district, the Chuguevsky municipal district and Lesozavodsk.

African swine fever, which circulates among wild boars, was recorded in Primorye in July 2019. As specified in the local government, the virus poses no danger to humans.

In late January, it was reported that a village in the Stavropol Territory will receive more than 2.1 million rubles in compensation after an outbreak of ASF.

In 2019, the World Organization for Animal Health predicted that about a quarter of the world's pig population could die from ASF.
