The Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, represented by its Chairman, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Emadi, signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations represented by the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wencesland.

Al-Emadi explained that the memorandum of understanding includes the mechanism for distributing the cash aid grant provided by the State of Qatar to poor families in the Gaza Strip.

The two parties agreed that the cash assistance will be disbursed to the beneficiaries through the United Nations and through its World Food Programme.

About 100,000 needy families in the governorates of the Gaza Strip will receive this aid monthly, and each of them will receive $100 in cash.

As for Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz, he said that Israel had reached an agreement with Doha and the United Nations on the mechanism for transferring Qatari grant funds to the Gaza Strip.

According to a statement issued by Gantz, the new mechanism requires that the United Nations transfer Qatari aid to the bank accounts of hundreds of thousands of Gaza residents directly under Israel’s monitoring to ensure who gets it, as he put it.
