A fire broke out on Thursday evening in a forest located in the center of Anglet, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. One house burned down and dozens of homes were evacuated, while several dozen hectares of pine forests were devastated. 

A serious fire broke out on Thursday evening in the center of Anglet, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, near Biarritz and Bayonne. The fire started in the Chiberta forest, devastating at least 40 hectares of pine forest and threatening around 100 others. At least one house has burnt down, while dozens of homes have been evacuated.  

The fire destroyed a tree climbing site according to France 3 Pays Basque . In videos posted on social networks, impressive images show houses threatened by fires.

A hundred firefighters on site

About a hundred firefighters are on site to fight the fire. "Reinforcements of firefighters have arrived from the neighboring department of Landes and others are on their way from the Gironde," Vincent Nicolas told AFP. "Firefighters from Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne have been placed on pre-alert," he added.
