Putin: We will sell gas and oil in rubles to unfriendly countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin said today, Wednesday, that his country decided to sell gas and oil only in the national currency, the ruble.

Putin explained that Russia "decided to use the ruble in trade transactions with unfriendly countries."

The Russian president added: "Russia will only accept payment in rubles for gas shipments to Europe," stressing Moscow's commitment to "contracts for the supply of gas supplies."

He explained that "the changes will only affect the payment currency," noting that "the government and the central bank have a week to reach a solution on how to transfer these operations to the Russian currency."
