The Seoul Southern District Prosecutor's Office, Shim Jae-cheol, has closed the allegations that he received a bribe from a key person involved in the so-called 'Jung Woon-ho Gate'.

The 3rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central Prosecutors' Office has recently closed the public review of a case in which a civil group Future Alternative Action requested investigation of Chief Prosecutor Shim on allegations of bribery.

Closing the public notice is a decision not to investigate a complaint that is unclear, simple rumor, or offensive without specific facts in accordance with the Prosecution's Case Management Rules.

Previously, in 2016, Chief Prosecutor Shim, who was the head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's strong division, took bribes from Jung's attorney while directing the investigation into the away gambling case of former Nature Republic CEO Jung Woon-ho, ' In other words, he asked the prosecution last year to investigate whether he made an opinion to the effect that 'it is okay to release him'.

However, the prosecution closed the case as there was no evidence to support the prosecution.

A Prosecutor's Office official said, "At the time of the investigation into the case of the lawyer in 2016 for the same content, the investigation team at the time strictly checked, but could not find any suspicious points. However, there was no evidence to admit the charges in relation to the presentation of the bail opinion.”
