Egg producer Mattias Bengtsson outside Getinge warns that there may be an egg shortage at Christmas when farmers now choose to reduce the number of hens to minimize their losses.

A major reason for the crisis is rushing prices for chicken feed as a result of the war in Ukraine.

"Unnaturally fast price increase on feed"

Marcus Lindström, division director at the packaging company Kronägg, says that there has been an unnaturally rapid price increase in feed prices and that they are working to increase the price they pay to their egg producers.

However, they can not say how long it will take or how big the price increase will be.

- It usually takes time to raise market prices, but we have still had a good dialogue now with the trade to solve this, says Marcus Lindström.
