Presidential: Jean-Christophe Cambadélis calls on the PS to self-dissolve

The former First Secretary of the Socialist Party Jean-Christophe Cambadélis calls on the PS to dissolve and the current First Secretary Olivier Faure to resign, to allow "the creation of another party", after the bitter failure of Anne Hidalgo in the presidential election, in an interview with

on  Wednesday.

The former leader of the PS believes that the party must "announce, during the next national council on April 19, that we will change everything", and "announce the holding, in the fall, of a congress of self-dissolution for the refoundation".

Olivier Faure "must resign"

The current First Secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure, who took over from Jean-Christophe Cambadélis in 2017, "must announce that he is going to resign (...). This would be a good thing for his legislative election and also for the credibility of the refoundation", considers Jean-Christophe Cambadelis.

"We need a refoundation and the creation of a new party, a social democratic and popular party", insists the former Prime Secretary, who launched at the end of March a "social democratic pole" intended to "bring together energies to a major shift to the left after the presidential and legislative elections.

Regarding the score of 1.75% of the mayor of Paris, he believes that "the PS and the candidate Anne Hidalgo were not ready. Courage cannot do everything. Anne Hidalgo could not change the lead of the PS into gold hope".

Jean-Christophe Cambadélis considers that "it is not Mélenchon who is responsible for our score, it is we who are responsible for Mélenchon's score. As long as we have not refounded ourselves, Jean-Luc Mélenchon will seem like a means of defending the honor of the left".

"A united front of the left" in the event of Le Pen's victory

For the next legislative elections, Jean-Christophe Cambadelis considers "union improbable but division impossible because it would be self-elimination".

"If Marine Le Pen wins, we need a united front of the left, a common candidate per constituency. The objective is cohabitation. If Emmanuel Macron wins, what I want is the nature of the opposition which is at stake. Either a frontal opposition, or a responsible opposition. For that, it is better to decide at the base, on a case-by-case basis by letting the federations do it", he judges.

But "the agenda for these 15 days is to beat Marine Le Pen by voting Emmanuel Macron", he insists, calling for "all the leaders of the left to organize a joint meeting to beat Marine Le Pen and vote in favor of Emmanuel Macron".
