President Moon Jae-in approved the declaration of a special disaster zone for the Jeollanam-do region, which was severely damaged by heavy rain earlier this month.

The special disaster zone declared this time includes three counties of Jangheung-gun, Gangjin-gun, and Haenam-gun in Jeollanam-do and four eup/myeon in Jindo-eup, Gunnae-myeon, Gogun-myeon, and Jisan-myeon in Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do.

In this area, the national treasury will provide additional support for a portion of the local cost of the restoration cost to prevent any disruption to the stability of the lives of the victims, including the restoration of damaged facilities.

In addition, to residents who have suffered damage to their homes and their main means of livelihood, such as agriculture and fishery, disaster subsidies for livelihood relief, as well as various benefits such as reductions in utility bills, such as reduction in electricity bills, will be provided.

President Moon said, "Amid the recent heatwave in earnest, I hope that residents affected by the heavy rains will take extra care so that they do not have any difficulties returning to their daily lives in the sweltering heat."

The declaration of a special disaster area was made by conducting a joint damage investigation immediately after the local government's recommendation to determine whether the declared standard amount was exceeded.
