The deep differences that have paralyzed political life in Lebanon and prevented the formation of a government for more than eight months have won justice.

This Monday, supporters of magistrate Ghada Aoun and attorney general Ghassan Oueidate, who relinquished the cases she is investigating, clashed in front of the courthouse, despite an imposing deployment of the police and the army .

The judge refused the prosecutor's decision and continued her searches of the premises of the currency transport company Mecattaf.

Selective justice?

The case was brought before the Superior Council of the Magistracy which met urgently and decided to hear this Tuesday, April 20 Ghada Aoun, who made the fight against corruption his main battle.

But his methods are contested by part of the political class which denounces a selective justice mainly directed against opponents of President Michel Aoun.

Ghassan Oueidate is supported by Prime Minister designate Saad Hariri, a Sunni like him.

The affair therefore takes a political and confessional turn, especially as the differences between Michel Aoun and Saad Hariri block the formation of a new government.

A demand from the international community in return for financial aid to Lebanon, which is on the verge of collapse.
