Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Hundreds of police officers are to check cyclists and bikers in the southwest in the coming days.

On Wednesday, as part of the so-called two-wheeler week, cyclists will first be looked at, as the Interior Ministry announced on Monday.

The aim of the traffic safety campaign is to control rules and to promote mutual awareness and more understanding.

There are therefore 278 checkpoints at which 1150 officers are said to be on duty.

At the weekend, motorcyclists are to be checked at more than 100 locations in the country.

In 2020, according to the ministry, there were more than 12,400 accidents involving cyclists in the southwest.

There were also almost 4,700 motorcycle accidents.

71 bikers were killed.
