Pele's daughter confirms that he will be out of intensive care within days

The daughter of Brazilian football legend Pele announced that he will leave intensive care within days after undergoing surgery to remove a tumor from his colon.

And Kelly Nascimento revealed that Pele, 80, a three-time World Cup winner, was "not in pain and in a good mood" at Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.

In a statement posted on her Instagram account, she said: "He is in good health after the surgery, does not feel pain and is in a good mood (he is only upset that he only eats jelly, but he will persevere)."

She added, "He will move to a normal room in the next day or two and then return home."

"He is strong and stubborn, and with the support and attention of the smart team at the hospital, and all the love, energy and light that the world sends, he will cross this," she affirmed.

Pele previously revealed that a "suspicious lesion" had been discovered during examinations, and urged surgeons to perform surgery, but vowed to treat it "with a smile on my face".

Perhaps the world's number one soccer player, he rose to international fame when he helped the Brazilian national team win the 1958 World Cup when he was just 17, and repeated the same feat twice in 1962 and 1970.

Officially, Pelé has scored 757 goals in his career, but his club Santos, for which he has played, claims to have scored nearly a thousand goals in his career - Pele is currently the third most-scoring player in men's football behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Joseph Piscan.
