In Gaza, Hamas was staging protests. And in the West Bank, in Turmus Ayya, a village north of Ramallah, Palestinian factions were organizing a joint public event, like a sacred union. At the initiative of Jibril Rajoub, head of the Fatah Central Committee, this event brought together leaders of Fatah, but also of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad side by side.

Leaders side by side

A scene against the light, a blazing sun. And hundreds of people wearing white caps to avoid yellow, the color of Fatah, and green, the color of Hamas. After the Palestinian hymn, and the afternoon prayer, Sheikh Hasan Yousef of Hamas is one of the first to speak. He strongly denounced the agreement between the Emirates and Israel .

The different leaders are side by side. The Palestinian prime minister shakes hands with fellow Hamas colleagues, a rare sight in the West Bank. Mohammad Shtayyeh takes the floor. He specifies that all are united to reject the famous deal of the century , the annexation and the normalization of relations. "  These are plans intended to eliminate the Palestinian question, the question of Jerusalem as capital, that of the right of return, and of the return to the 1967 borders  ”.

In the public, Fatah supporters are in the majority. According to Qadoura Fares, former minister of Yaser Arafat and leader of the association of Palestinian prisoners, this meeting is only a first step. “  We need real reconciliation. The Palestinian people must remain united! Because without that, we will be just a bunch of liars  ”. On the outskirts of the village, clashes took place between young Palestinians and the Israeli army.
