Out of 710 Covid-19 tests performed during the first week of May at the Montpellier University Hospital, only one was positive. These figures, arrested before the long weekend of May 8, confirm the fall in the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Occitania, before the deconfinement on Monday.
"The curve has been broken," confirms Thomas Le Ludec, director general of the hospital center, who, however, is very cautious for the weeks to come. “The containment had a favorable impact. We have received few calls to Samu related to Covid-19 in the past week. We spent the first half. Without even knowing if we're going to play extra time, we don't know if there will be a second half. ”
630 deaths in total in Occitania
Across the region the growth of the epidemic has been halted. Other patients were nevertheless detected positive for coronavirus during this week, in particular in the Covid-19 medical centers set up in Montpellier and more generally throughout the territory. Since the start of the epidemic, 7,416 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Occitania (according to figures stopped on Sunday at 7 p.m.), 439 of them are still hospitalized, including 105 in intensive care.

In total, in Occitania, 2,425 patients were able to return to their homes after their passage in hospital. 630 people officially died of the coronavirus (454 in health establishments, on May 10, and 176 in Ehpad, on May 6). The number of home deaths linked to the pandemic should be known in June.
