The Ministry of Health of Cambodia reported on January 1 that since December 26 last year, Cambodia has imported Omi Kejon infection cases every day, and the highest number of new cases in a single day is 15 cases.

Up to now, a total of 52 cases of Omi Keron infection have been detected nationwide, entering Phnom Penh City and Siem Reap Province respectively.

Cambodia opened the quarantine-free entry for domestic and foreign citizens who completed two doses of vaccinations on November 15 last year.

Faced with the more contagious Omi Keron mutant strain, Li Ailan, the representative of the World Health Organization in Cambodia, suggested that the Cambodian authorities further strengthen international border epidemic prevention measures.

Li Ailan pointed out that under the existing measures, Cambodia has found that more and more cases of imported Omi Kejon infections are expected.

Although early studies have shown that the Omi Keron mutant strain can cause milder illnesses, it can also cause the healthcare system to be overwhelmed.

Li Ailan said that Omi Keron has a strong ability to spread, and we need to prepare for a surge in the epidemic to avoid the collapse of the medical system.

She called on individuals and communities to strictly observe epidemic prevention measures.

Li Ailan said that in order to deal with the mutant strains of Delta and Omi Keron, five key tools can be adopted, namely, completion of vaccination, strict prevention of epidemic measures, improvement of medical and health care capabilities, early detection and early treatment, and strengthening of border epidemic prevention measures.

The Ministry of Health of Cambodia revealed that at present, the Omi Keron patient treated in the hospital is in stable condition and there is no serious condition.

The Cambodian government has repeatedly emphasized that the people should not be overly alarmed while strictly observing the epidemic prevention measures. Officials will not restart the previous "city lockdown" measures because of Omi Keron.
