The North Korean government has warned its citizens not to talk about the health of the national leader, Kim Jong Un, after he recently lost weight, describing the gossip as a "reactionary act", according to sources in the country.

Government authorities kept repeating their version that Kim, who is referred to as "higher dignity", is in good health and that his recent weight loss is the result of his suffering alongside his people, who suffer from chronic food insecurity, the effects of which have been exacerbated for long periods by Corona virus pandemic.

Kim appeared in a noticeable skinny size in front of the state media, in June, after a long absence, and speculation began to circulate among the public about his weight loss, and Radio Free Asia reported that the authorities considered at that time that spreading rumors about Kim’s health was treason, and investigations were opened to find out its source, and stated Radio Free Asia sources that the authorities' attempts to prevent people from discussing Kim's health have apparently failed.

As residents reported health problems related to Kim and his weight loss, a number of monitoring units in the coastal city of Cheongjin issued official warnings to people at their weekly meeting, warning that talking about the leader was "reactionary."

The source, who asked not to be identified, said that "the monitoring units in the neighborhood also said that the leader's sudden weight loss is not due to a health problem, but rather because of his suffering from the country's isolation, and because of the citizens who live in crisis."

The source said that some of those present at the meeting said they were sad because their leader was suffering alone, as the country faces its biggest crisis, but the attendees were only saying what the leaders of the meeting wanted to hear.

The need for clarification

The source said: “This is the first time that the authorities have felt the need to officially explain to the public, through neighborhood watch units in each area, that (Supreme Dignity) does not suffer from health problems,” the source added: “But on the other hand, some residents believe That Kim lost his weight is not a bad thing, because the shape he looked before he lost weight was more dangerous to his health.”

A resident of Sarion city in North Hwanghae Province, south of the capital, Pyongyang, told Radio Free Asia that neighborhood monitoring units there also warned people not to gossip about Kim's health.

This citizen, who requested anonymity for security reasons, says: “Although the city of Sarion did not hold an emergency meeting for the residents to reassure them that (Supreme Dignity) is in good health, it did warn people in the neighborhood monitoring meetings not to mention his health.” From publishing any stories about the health of the leader, who she said has become weak due to the accumulation of national affairs on his shoulders.

Kim did not appear before his people for a long time, and rumors spread of his ill health, and that plans had been made for what might happen after his death inside and outside North Korea.

Radio Free Asia reported, in April 2020, that during one of these absences, citizens living near the Chinese border kept spreading rumors that he was on his deathbed, while North Korea watchers in the West were speculating that the leader's sister, Kim Yo Jong, She will be next in line for the referee, and rumors dissipated when Kim appeared in public, on May 1, 2020, and Kim Yo Jong was demoted the following year, which sparked more outside speculation about her level of importance within her brother's inner circle.

This is the first time that the authorities have felt the need to formally explain to the public, through neighborhood watch units in each district, that Supreme Dignity does not suffer from health problems.
