A 70-year-old man was shot dead at his home in Bousbecque, in the North, on the night of Thursday to Friday, during a burglary that went wrong.

His companion is unharmed but deeply shocked.

Several individuals are wanted.

The Lille judicial police were seized of the investigation.

On the night of Thursday to Friday, a 70-year-old man was shot and killed in his home in a burglary that went wrong.

Two individuals, who had entered the house of the septuagenarian located in a suburban area in the countryside north of Lille, would have surprised the couple in their sleep.

Faced with resistance from the septuagenarian, one of them allegedly shot the victim before fleeing with his accomplices.

An open investigation

The burglars took away a sum estimated at 700 euros.

The help, arrived on site in the middle of the night, could do nothing to save this market gardener installed in the town and known for many years.

His wife is unharmed but deeply shocked.

This small neighborhood, usually very quiet, is now cordoned off by the police for the neighborhood investigation.

The couple's home has been taken over since Friday morning by investigators and forensic scientists looking for clues or traces that could put them on the trail of murderous attackers.

But for now, to no avail.

Joseph Lefebvre, the mayor of this town of about 5,000 inhabitants located on the Belgian border has confirmed the information.

"You can imagine the shock and the emotion that this arouses, it is a human drama", he reacted.

The Lille judicial police were seized of the investigation.
