Juan Lorenzo Holmann Chamorro was sentenced this Thursday, March 31, 2022, to nine years in prison for money laundering in one of the trials brought against opponents of President Daniel Ortega, this newspaper announced.

La Prensa
, founded almost a century ago, currently disseminates its information only through its website, due to lack of resources and personnel since its bank accounts were seized.
The newspaper, which had played an important role in the fight against the Somoza dictatorship in the 1960s and 1970s, maintained a critical position
towards Daniel Ortega, in power since 2007
, as well as his wife and vice-president Rosario Murillo.
The Nicaraguan authorities seem to pursue with their vengeance the Chamorro family, influential in Nicaragua, especially in the press.
Several of its members have been worried since June 2021 and the arrest of seven opposition candidates and 39 other opponents.
Juan Lorenzo Holmann Chamorro is a cousin of
imprisoned opponent Cristiana Chamorro.
