The total production ended up at 86.5 million tonnes - an increase of six percent compared to the previous year, according to statistics from the Swedish Geological Survey (SGU). It also means the highest measured production figure of ore since the measurements started in 1834.

-The mines that have increased the most are the Kaunisvaara mine which has increased just over three million tonnes and Aitik in Gällivare which has increased by two million tonnes. The other mines have gone about plus or minus zero, says Lars Norlin, investigator at SGU, to the radio.

The amount of salable iron ore products increased by 5 percent to 29 million tonnes.
