Rattling is not only part of the trade in the car business.

But Peugeot may be overdoing it a bit with the announcement of its new 408.

Show off the creativity of your team and offer a new fastback silhouette in the C segment.

And the 408 is the first of its kind, both in the history of the brand and in the car market.

Let's leave it at that and stick to the facts.

With the 408, Peugeot is reviving the 4 Series, the 407 sedan was taken off the market in 2011.

The new 408 is an impressive 4.69 meters long, which does not prevent Peugeot from speaking of a compact car.

With a wheelbase of 2.79 meters, pleasant space can be expected, the trunk volume is 536 liters, maximum is 1611.

Luggage up to 1.89 meters in length fits under the large flap when the rear seat is folded down.

Peugeot is proud of the aerodynamic efficiency, the drag coefficient is a low 0.295.

The 408 is produced in Mulhouse, for China it is built in Chengdu.

There will be four engine variants, one of which is purely electric, but this will follow a few months later.

Peugeot will initially start in 2023 with two plug-in hybrid variants with 180 and 225 hp.

The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 12.4 kWh.

It can be charged with a maximum of 7.4 kW.

These combinations are already known from other Group models such as the Opel Astra.

The same applies to the only pure variant with a combustion engine, which is equipped with a small 1.2-liter three-cylinder that delivers 130 hp.

There are no diesel models.

All three variants have front-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic.

Up to thirty assistance systems are available, supported by six cameras and nine radar devices.

The digital and special cockpit has been revised again, a 3D view is available on request, and the central screen can be fully customized.
