But in another sense we could define it as even more exotic: they are bottles that none of the tasters knew about - or recognized when we uncapped them - because they belong to a kind of flowering of new wineries, or completely new wines from well-established wineries, such as Alta Alella. or the historic El Grifo Lanzarote.
What is happening? Well, in the wine sector, very shaken in its national and foreign markets by a year and a half of pandemic, and which also faces the challenge of getting young people into the culture of wine, new actors have appeared - generally wineries small, rather Burgundian inspiration-, the creatives have arrived with their groundbreaking labels to attract the youth, new figures have been created that favor terroir wines with those vineyards and unique places that are defining and regulating appellations such as Rioja, Priorat or Bierzo ...
So the innovations belong to different genres, and in this tasting there were 4 and 50 euro wines, some with real personality and interest, and almost all competently made, without the excesses of maturity, grade, extraction and new oak. of that 'American' taste of a few years ago.
All this coincides with the gradual opening of the country - and of the Western world - as the pandemic is controlled, and from now on we will see how those markets respond.
For now, get to know how we have known those fine Rioja parcel wines, that Albacete red from the rediscovered Forcallat grape - in the last 20 years, literally dozens of forgotten or almost extinct grape varieties have been recovered and commercially exploited - that sparkling Canarian of volcanic malvasia ...
