The Federal Ministry of the Interior will go to the Hessian SPD leader Nancy Faeser, as a spokesman for the party announced to the dpa.

In a press conference on Monday morning, Chancellor-designate Olaf Scholz, on behalf of the SPD, as the last of the three traffic light coalition partners, announced the distribution of the ministries led by Social Democrats.

At the presentation of the new interior minister, Scholz added: "A woman who is supposed to be something very special: namely the first female interior minister in the Federal Republic of Germany." So far, the 51-year-old lawyer in the Wiesbaden state parliament has headed the social democratic group.
