The National Shooting Sports Foundation, which tracks background checks of gun buyers across the U.S., says gun sales have grown nationwide.
More than 8.4 million people bought firearms for the first time in 2020, the group said.
In 2020, the agency also conducted a record 21 million background checks, compared with 13.2 million in 2019.
Pekosch warned that bringing guns to checkpoints could cost the carrier dearly.
The fine for carrying a firearm can be as high as $13,900.
