According to data from the National Film Administration, the box office of Chinese-made movies was 39.927 billion yuan, accounting for 84.49% of the total box office.
There were 6667 new screens throughout the year, and the total number of screens reached 82,248. China's film industry recovered and developed rapidly, and the total box office and total number of screens continued to rank first in the world.
In 2021, the film "Changjin Lake" triggered a movie-watching boom and became the box office champion of Chinese film history with 5.772 billion yuan. The second place in the year was "Hello, Li Huanying" which was released in the Spring Festival file with a box office of 5.414 billion yuan and "Chinatown". Detective 3 ranked third with 4.524 billion yuan.
It is worth mentioning that the main melody films have achieved outstanding results in 2021. Among the top ten films of the year, 4 are the main melody works.
Only "Fast and Furious 9" and "Godzilla vs. King Kong" were the only overseas blockbuster films that entered the top ten box office with 5th and 8th places respectively.
