China News Service, Zhangjiakou, November 25th. Title: National Cross-Country Skiing Center: "Original" Winter Olympic venues make "Snow Marathon" more exciting

China News Agency reporter Li Xiaowei

It is the longest track among the ancient poplar venues in Zhangjiakou for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. It will produce 15 Winter Olympic gold medals in cross-country skiing and Nordic biathlon.

It is the smallest permanent building in the ancient poplar complex, leaving the smallest "ecological footprint" and achieving harmony with the natural environment.

It is the National Cross-Country Ski Center.

During the Beijing Winter Olympics, the National Cross-Country Ski Center will bring a wonderful Winter Olympics event in an "original" stadium.

"Snow Marathon": the total length of the track is 13 kilometers

The national cross-country skiing center here has been covered with thick white snow to prepare for the upcoming Winter Olympics test competition.

According to Li Zhenlong, venue and infrastructure manager of the National Cross-Country Ski Center, during the competition, the National Cross-Country Ski Center will produce 15 gold medals, of which 12 are cross-country skiing gold medals and 3 are Nordic two gold medals.

There are no Paralympic Games here.

Li Zhenlong said that cross-country skiing is called a "snow marathon". The total length of all tracks of the National Cross-Country Ski Center is 13 kilometers, including 9.7 kilometers of competition circuits, 1.8 kilometers of training circuits, and 1.5 kilometers of warm-up circuits.

In the cross-country track, uphill, downhill, and undulating sections each account for one third.

"The competition has clear requirements for the uphill slope, which is a very big test for athletes' physical strength and endurance." Li Zhenlong said.

On the track of the National Cross-Country Ski Center, 59 large light poles were also set up.

Li Zhenlong said that because part of the cross-country ski center competitions during the Winter Olympics will be held at night, for this reason, the professional sports lighting company calculated that the construction of these lamp posts can reach a vertical illumination of 1,500 lux.

During the game, the "bright as day" light will meet the needs of the game and the event broadcast.

"Original ecological venue": leaving the smallest ecological footprint

"The National Cross-Country Ski Center is the closest competition venue to the original ecology." Li Zhenlong said. The technical building is a permanent building, and the others are temporary buildings.

This is in line with the concept of "Green Olympics" and is also convenient for post-match use of venues.

Zhang Li, deputy chief architect of Tsinghua University's Architectural Design and Research Institute and chief design officer of Zhangjiakou competition area, once told the media that the technical building of the National Cross-Country Ski Center is the smallest of the ancient poplar venues. The greatest environment is left for natural leisure activities after the game."

In addition, according to Li Zhenlong, the track design of the National Cross-Country Ski Center not only meets the requirements of track width and slope, but also fully respects the natural terrain, retaining the original trees to the greatest extent.

The venues make full use of natural endowments, scientifically plan, protect the surrounding ecology, reduce the amount of construction, and achieve harmony with the natural environment.

"Integrated with mountains, dense forests and white snow, athletes will feel particularly good skiing in such an environment." Li Zhenlong said.

"Four Seasons Operation": Orderly use planning after the game

"In the process of building the National Cross-Country Skiing Center, the requirements during the race and the utilization after the race were taken into consideration." Li Zhenlong said.

It is understood that after the Beijing Winter Olympics, the National Cross-Country Ski Center strives to "operate in four seasons": build clubs for equestrianism and mountain biking in summer; build mountain parks and family snow entertainment centers in winter, and set up reindeer and dog sledding and other leisure activities. Entertainment projects, while creating indoor equestrian training grounds, so that visitors can also experience the fun of equestrian in winter.

Li Zhenlong believes that fully tapping the value of the venues after the game is in line with the Beijing Winter Olympics' "green, shared, open, and clean" Olympic concept.

It will be an important issue to drive consumption through the sports service industry and stimulate local economic development in a greener way.
