On July 2, local time, the United States began the Independence Day holiday, and the day before, shootings occurred in many places in the United States, killing at least 7 people and injuring more than 20 others.

  Chicago police said a 26-year-old Chicago man was shot and killed in the street at around 5:43 p.m. local time on the 1st.

The man was shot in the head and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

  Later on the 1st, there were at least two shootings in Chicago, including one in Chinatown, that killed a woman, wounded the gunman and two others.

Police are investigating another incident in West Garfield Park after a man shot and wounded four people and fled.

  Two teenagers were killed and at least nine others were injured in a shooting at a community building in the Houston area at around 10:40 p.m. on the 1st, Texas state police said.

Police said that the scene of the incident was very chaotic, and a number of people involved in the incident have been arrested.

  In Kentucky, a 49-year-old man shot dead three officers and wounded at least six others during a more than five-hour standoff with police.

The man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts, including murder, and will appear in court on July 11.
