Tottenham Hotspur coach Jose Mourinho is confident that he will be able to win titles with the London team if given the time like Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, the Premier League champions.
Mourinho, who took over Tottenham after sacking Mauricio Pochettino last November, was used to competing for titles in clubs he had coached before, but Spurs' ninth place in the league this season has kept him out of the European Championships.
But the Portuguese coach referred to Klopp, who coached Liverpool in 2015 and led the team to the Champions League, European Super Cup and Club World Cup titles last year before crowning the team for the Premier League for the first time in 30 years this season.
"How long did it take for Jurgen and Liverpool? Four years, four seasons. Buying one of the best goalkeepers in the world and one of the best defenders in the world, etc.," Mourinho told reporters.
He added: "I focus on my three-year contract. I think that during the term of my contract we can win titles. If we don't do that and my stay lasts for only three years, I will be happy with that."
"I work for the club and do not think about myself. I still say that my ambition is the same and my DNA is the same, but maybe I will pass through a stage in which my interest in myself and what I achieve in return for more interest in the club will diminish," Mourinho added.
Mourinho said that Tottenham, who has not won a title since winning the English Club League Cup in 2008, does not need massive spending to sign players in the next transfer window.
"I am optimistic because I started working from my first day. I trust that some changes can be made to our squad, so we do not need huge spending like the club did last summer."
Tomorrow, Tottenham will host his local opponent Arsenal in the league.
