The Pride train started on Saturday evening local time.

The parade had only gone a short distance when the driver suddenly ran over two people.

One of died of his injuries the other is being cared for in hospital.

Dean Trantalis, mayor of Fort Lauderdale, describes for 7 News Miami, how the driver then tried to escape the scene before he was arrested by the police.

The police have not yet released any information about the perpetrator and any motives.

But the mayor states that it is a "deliberate attack on the LGBTQ movement".

The local police write on Twitter that the pride train has been canceled.

However, they emphasize that there is no longer any danger to the public.
