More than half of Beirut's hospitals, including three of the most important, are "out of service", according to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), eight days after the explosion that devastated the Lebanese capital.

After an assessment of the condition of 55 clinics and health centers in the city, "we know that just over 50% of these facilities are out of service," said Richard Brennan, WHO regional director of emergencies. , during a press conference in Cairo. According to the director, three of Beirut's main hospitals are out of service and three others are not operating at full capacity.

The explosion that ravaged the capital on August 4 left 171 dead and more than 6,000 injured, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. 300,000 people are homeless. The blast sparked a political crisis and the resignation of the government on Monday.
