As a representative of the original ecological folk songs in the Taihang Mountains, Zuoquan folk songs have been widely sung as early as the Song and Yuan Dynasties, and have become a form of entertainment for local people when they work and relax. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, folk songs were closer to life, and there are still some songs that have been handed down from that year. Since the 1940s, there have been more than 100 Zuoquan folk songs.

During the War of Resistance Against Japan, as the headquarters of the former enemy of the Eighth Route Army stationed in Zuoquan County, cultural workers and folk artists worked together to explore and organize Zuoquan folk art, and created a large number of new folk songs with the theme of uniting anti-Japanese, which were widely circulated in the Taihang Mountains.
