In particular, he called for a new bilateral treaty with the United Kingdom.

After the crisis meeting Sunday in Calais with several European interior ministers - without the British who were "uninvited" - Gérald Darmanin praised, Monday, the results of his action in the fight against illegal immigration and increased pressure on the British.
He kept French politics and the upcoming presidential election in mind.

The Interior muscles its device
The Minister of the Interior first of all recalled the forthcoming commitment of a plane and two additional helicopters to better monitor the coast.
He also announced the upcoming doubling, along the French borders, of the police force of the Central Office for the Suppression of Irregular Immigration (Ocriest).
On the judicial side, the tenant of Place Beauvau spoke of the criminalization of aid to stay in organized groups, to better fight against smugglers.
A proposal that will only see the light of day if the Minister of Justice Éric Dupond-Moretti takes it up.
Towards a new treaty with the United Kingdom?
But the most important thing is cooperation with the British.
Gérald Darmanin pleaded for a new bilateral treaty in which he asks them to accept more asylum requests but also to better facilitate legal immigration to the United Kingdom.
Given the current state of relations with London, this treaty is unlikely to succeed.
The whole political stake of this declaration for Gérald Darmanin was therefore to show the right that the State is acting and to prepare the ground for Emmanuel Macron who wants to propose in ten days a reform of Schengen, space in which he wants to apply the principle non-admission, to more easily turn back migrants.
