The former Barcelona star Messi surpassed the Polish Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich's top scorer, who came in second place.
Messi won the award for the best player in the world for the seventh time during his career in an unprecedented achievement.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker added the 2021 award to his previous awards in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019.
The Italian Jorginho, the Chelsea star, came in third place, followed by the French Karim Benzema, Real Madrid's top scorer, in the fourth place, and then the French midfielder, N'Golo Kante, in the fifth place.
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo came sixth, Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's top scorer, seventh, Belgian Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City star eighth, French Kylian Mbappe, Paris Saint-Germain's top scorer ninth, and Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma, Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper tenth.
