In addition, she noted that Germany continues to consider the project to be economic and needs to be completed.

“We think that completing the project is right, and we work in that spirit,” she said.

According to her, the extraterritorial sanctions threatened by the United States “do not correspond to the understanding (questions) of law” that exists in Germany.

Earlier, the German Foreign Ministry emphasized that possible US sanctions are obviously aimed at stopping Nord Stream 2, and they are unacceptable.

As Republican Congressman Steve Womack stated, new sanctions against the gas pipeline are included in the draft national defense budget. 

Media reported that Germany is preparing measures in case the US imposes new sanctions.
