Masaaki Oka, a lawyer, and Toru Sakai, who served as the chief prosecutor of the Tokyo Higher Prosecutor's Office, will be appointed as new judges of the Supreme Court.

Judge Katsuyuki Kizawa of the Supreme Court will retire on the 26th of next month, and Judge Masayuki Ikegami will retire on the 28th of next month.



Along with this, Mr. Masaaki Oka, a lawyer, and Mr. Toru Sakai, who was the chief prosecutor of the Tokyo Higher Prosecutor's Office, will be appointed as new judges.



Mr. Oka is 65 years old.



As a lawyer, he has served as a member of the Civil Code Subcommittee of the Legal System Council of the Ministry of Justice and a vice chairman of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, and has been an outside director of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation since June of the first year of Reiwa.



Sakai is 63 years old.



After working as the chief prosecutor of the Sendai High Public Prosecutors Office and the deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Public Prosecutors Office, he was the chief prosecutor of the Tokyo High Public Prosecutors Office until this month.



All of these appointments will be announced after September 2nd.
