Manchester City announces the inclusion of a former Barcelona player

Manchester City confirmed today the signing of Spanish left-back Sergio Gomes from Anderlecht, Belgium, in a four-year deal for 11 million pounds ($13 million).

The under-21 international became the fourth signing of the English Premier League champions in the summer transfer period, after the arrival of the Norwegian Erling Haaland, Calvin Phillips and German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno.

"City is the best team in England, and with Pep Guardiola I have the opportunity to learn and develop under the leadership of the most distinguished coach in world football," said Gomes, who previously played in the Barcelona youth ranks.

"Being part of this club is a dream come true for me, and it is something that any young player aspires to," he added.

For his part, the Spanish club's director of football, Cheeky Begiristain, said Gomes was an "exciting young talent".
