Charleston, South Carolina is the scene when the women's tennis returns at the end of June in a competition the organizers choose to call "The (Re) Open". Sixteen WTA players will take part in a team competition with sixteen singles matches and eight doubles matches in the largest competition since tennis stopped earlier this spring.

Among the sixteen contributors, two young, exciting names stand out. 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu and 21-year-old Sofia Sofia Kenin. For Andreescu, the competition stay seems to have done well and the reigning US Open champion seems to have gotten rid of the knee injury that has kept her away from games since October. Kenin became a name for the larger tennis crowd when she won the Australian Open in February.

Charleston is usually a stop on the WTA tour in the form of the Volvo Car Open with the competition being one of the first to be canceled after the pandemic.
